  • Early Life and Education: He was born on November 11, 1959. He received his LLB degree from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University. He then obtained an LLM and a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) degree from Harvard Law School.

    • He practiced law in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
    • He served as an Additional Solicitor General of India.
    • He was appointed as a Judge of the Bombay High Court in 2000.
    • He became the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court in 2013.
    • He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India in 2016.
    • He assumed the office of the Chief Justice of India on November 9, 2022.
  • Notable Judgments and Positions: He has been a part of several landmark judgments including those related to Aadhaar, Right to Privacy, and LGBTQ+ rights. He is known for his progressive and liberal views. He has also been involved in cases related to Environmental law and Constitutional law.
